The Backbone of the American South
- ABOUT US -
Feather and Pearl is a name with many meanings. It is meant to represent the most beautiful parts of nature-from the mountains to the sea.
The "feather" represents the famous Southern saying "Birds of a Feather, flock together" and is an homage to our founder's grandmother Katie, who taught her at an early age the importance of self-sufficiency, the value of craftsmanship, and a love for all things handmade.
The pearl is symbolic of how something beautiful can emerge from anywhere-with a little grit and determination. It is also a nod to the time Kellie spent living in coastal Georgia, and her love affair with Charleston, SC.
Finally, the reference to birds is a nod to the many generations of strong, Appalachian women in her family, notably "White Bird" Sarah Jane Alcott, Kellie's 4th great grandmother, a Native-American woman from the Monacan tribe known for her natural remedies and ability to heal the sick.
This company began in a small apartment kitchen in a mountain town nestled deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains. With $300, a pouring pitcher, and a lot of trial and error, it has continued to grow and expand. All candles and melts are still hand-poured in small batches, and all materials are sourced from local and regional distributors and manufacturers. We use 100% US-grown natural soy wax and all of our fragrance oils are free of phthalates, which makes for a longer, cleaner burn.
We believe in our products and strive to bring you the very best from Appalachia and the American South; a place where sustainability, quality craftsmanship, and the roots of family and tradition run deep.
